Are you a hardworking aspiring journalist, or do you just want to try something new? Join The Scroll today! No experience is required for most positions.

What we have to offer

All positions must be able to work within a deadline. Editor positions will require an interview. Reliable transportation is required for writers and photographers.

Copy Editor - Edit copy (stories and captions) in the yearbook for grammar, usage, punctuation, accuracy, etc. (Reports to Associate Editor and Editor)

 

Social Media Editor - Run all official Scroll social media (Instagram, Facebook, Twitter) and post regularly. Help maintain a professional yet fun online presence for the Scroll and work to gain a following. (Reports to Associate Editor, Editor and advisor.)

 

Layout Editor - Oversees all page layouts, checking for consistency and good design. Is accountable for layout designers, pages and layout deadlines. Must be knowledgeable of InDesign. (Layout designers will report to you.)

 

Online Editor - Runs the Scroll’s official website. Updates it with recent stories and photos. Unused stories and/or photos will be added here. The editor of this position will pick content for updates on the website and can edit stories as needed.

 

Photo Editor - Oversees all photography done for the Scroll and is accountable for all photographers, photography assignments and deadlines. Organizes student portraits. Edits photos for the book using Photoshop. Must be knowledgeable in Photoshop. (Photographers will report to you.)

 

Section Editor: Sports - Oversees the Sports section of the yearbook. Finds leads and story ideas for that section. Acts as a contact with the Athletics department at UCA. Is accountable for all stories and deadlines within the Sports section, as well as writers and photographers working on Sports assignments. Edits Sports stories for grammar and accuracy along with the Copy Editor. Must be knowledgeable of the variety of sports offered at UCA. (Connections to the Athletics department at UCA is preferred but not required.)

 

Section Editor: Greek Life - Oversees the Greek Life section of the yearbook. Finds leads and story ideas for that section. Acts as a contact for all Greek Life at UCA. Is accountable for all stories and deadlines within the Greek Life section, as well as writers and photographers working on Greek Life assignments. Edits Greek Life stories for grammar and accuracy along with the Copy Editor. (Connections to Greek Life at UCA is highly recommended but not required.)

 

Section Editor: RSOs - Oversees the RSO section of the yearbook. Finds leads and story ideas for that section. Acts as a contact for all RSOs at UCA. Is accountable for all stories and deadlines within the RSO section, as well as writers and photographers working on RSO assignments. Edits RSO stories for grammar and accuracy along with the Copy Editor. (Connections to RSOs at UCA is preferred but not required.)

 

Section Editor: Academics -  Oversees the Academics section of the yearbook. Finds leads and story ideas for that section. Acts as a contact with all Academics at UCA. Is accountable for all stories and deadlines within the Academics section, as well as writers and photographers working on Academics assignments. Edits Academics stories for grammar and accuracy along with the Copy Editor. (Connections to Academics at UCA is preferred but not required.)

 

Public Liaison - Also the Public Relations position. Ideal for anyone in the public relations department or degree path. Sets up meetings with the president or other administration at UCA. Secure tickets to events for photographers and writers. These individuals help get the recognition that the Scroll wants and needs. Help in (hopefully rare) problematic times by creating apology letters, addressing the situation in emails or letters. Overall help to maintain and improve the Scroll’s image.

 

Photographer - Photographs events and student portraits for the Scroll. Is required to gather names and information about photos and write thorough captions. Reports to the Photo Editor as well as the Associate Editor and Editor.


Writer - Covers events and writes stories for the Scroll. Reports to the appropriate section editor as well as the Associate Editor and Editor.

 

Layout Designer - Uses design programs such as InDesign to create and edit pages for the yearbook. Reports to the Layout Editor as well as the Associate Editor and Editor. Preferably would be willing to teach other staff members about design programs.
 

General Staffer - Works on anything that needs to be done at the Scroll, such as writing stories, taking photographers, designing pages, etc. (A great position if you are unsure what you would like to do at the Scroll.) Reports to the appropriate section editor and Associate Editor and Editor.
